Spartans Come Out
Tough In Arizona |
|
The Spartan Varsity Wrestling team traveled to Arizona for the 42nd Annual Peoria Tournament of Champions this past weekend, taking an impressive 2nd place. Thirty four teams competed, with Sunnyside, Arizona taking first.
Amongst the 204.5 points scored, seven wrestlers placed. Winning their respective weight classes were Britain Longmire-112, Nick Harris-135, and Robert Atwood-215. Second place finishers were Yosnay Malvarez-119, Brogan Ashjian-145, and Aaron Garcia-160. Chris Samples also placed, taking 5th at 189.
Longmire was named as one of the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, and Robert Atwood was awarded with the honor of most falls. Atwood pinned four of his five opponents, and tech falled his other. Congratulations to the varsity squad on a spectacular performance.

JV Spartans Win Sunset
Regional Championship |
|
The Spartan JV Wrestlers took home first place and were declared the Sunset JV Regional Champions this past weekend. This is a back to back championship-Regional win for the JV wrestlers, as they also won in 2006.
The Spartans placed 17 athletes out of the 32 that were entered into the tournament. The individual Sunset JV Champions were Dustin Taylor at 103, Isaac Hosseini at 112, Brandon Heckman at 130, Kevin Mendoza at 152, Mike Thompson at 160, and Ryan Lamay at 189.
Other placers were Jessie Russell-2nd at 103, Dominic Rios-3rd at 112, Erik Lowell-4th at 119, Sean Fenner-3rd at 125, Dean Hatefi-3rd at 130, Carter Hagerty-2nd at 135, Anthony Heaps-4th at 140, Brandon Ruzicka-2nd at 145, Charles Bernardino-3rd at 145, AJ Morrison-2nd at 160, and Allen Lee-4th at 189.

Spartans Off to a Great Start |
|
The Spartan varsity wrestlers have begun their season with a tremendous start. They are currently 13-1 in dual matches, only having that one loss to Temecula, California.
The team took third place at the annual Green Valley Duals, and took first at the Sierra Vista Duals. Standing out for the Spartans and remaining undefeated are Britain Longmire, Jason Schuele, Nick Harris, Brogan Ashjian, and Robert Atwood.
The team will travel to tough tournaments in San Diego, Hunington Beach, and Victorville, California, along with Peoria, Arizona throughout the season. The Spartans were state runners-up in 2007, and hope to bring the title back home when they host the state tournament in February.
Great job, Spartan wrestlers!!!

Spring Valley Invitational |
|
The Spartan JV wrestlers once again had a successful day at the the Spring Valley Invitational this past Saturday. The tournament format consisted of four pools per weight class, and the winner of the pool advanced to the semi-finals, then finals with a victory there.
Winning their respective weight classes were Isaac Hosseini-112, Dean Hatefi-125, and Chase DiRodio-285. The second place finishers were Joshua Peckham-112, Carter Hagerty-135, Charles Bernardino-145, and Mike Thompson-171. Third and fourth placers include Brian Vincent-3rd at 130, Cody Clark-3rd at 145, and Dylan Seprish-4th at 160.
The Spartans take on Legacy and Cheyenne on Thursday, December 13th at Cheyenne High School. They also travel to Bonanza for the annual Sunset Regional JV Championships on Saturday the 15th.

Spartan JV Wrestlers
Dominate Tournament |
|
The Spartan JV wrestling team dominated the field this past Saturday at the 1st annual Las Vegas High School Kick-Off Classic. Over twenty-three teams from the valley attended, and Cimarron-Memorial had the most medallists and champions. They medalled fifteen wrestlers, included three champions and five runners-up.
The champions were Jesse Russell-103, Isaac Hosseini-112, and Chris Fine-135. Runners-up were Tedi Polena-112, Andre Fleming-145, Cody Clark-145, Marshall Gonzalez-152, and Mike Thompson-171.

Spartans Do Well in Earlybird Tournament at Foothill |

For a tournament only lasting a couple of hours, the Spartans did a remarkable job of collecting victories, with at total of 21 wins collectively and only 10 losses, the Spartans made their presence felt. Teams faced: Eldorado, Basic, Foothill, Boulder City, and Coronado.

2007-08 Season Kicks Off
with Newcomers' Tournament |

The Cimarron-Memorial "New to the sport" wrestlers, did an outstanding job on Saturday! The Spartans posted a total of 55 wins collectively with only 32 losses. We had 11 placers of the 29 Spartans who wrestled with 2 champions (Carter Hagerty and Tedi Polena), 3 runners-up, 4 taking 3rd place, and 2 taking 4th.
